FAQ

The course for a 5K is 3.1 miles. How long does it take to complete a 5K?

This is a fun, celebratory event — not competitive. Most participants finish in 30–50 minutes; the fastest complete it in about 25 minutes. All paces are welcome, including walk, run, skip, or roll.

Is it required for GOTR/H&S participants to attend the 5K?

We strongly encourage all participants to attend and complete the 5K, as it is the season’s goal. That said, we understand life happens; if you cannot attend, please keep a spot for another participant.

What safety measures are in place for the 5K?

Every participant must wear a race bib (provided by the council). Running buddies are assigned, and only critical volunteers have access to confidential information. Course marshals and head counts monitor the route to ensure everyone crosses the finish line, and a safety plan trains staff and volunteers for emergencies.

Is the 5K course accessible for people with disabilities?

Yes — the 5K is for everyone. Participants can walk, run, push, or roll at their own happy pace. Designated accessible parking and support are available.

Do participants/volunteers receive anything for running the 5K?

Every registered participant who completes the 5K receives a medal. There are also merchandise booths supporting the council.

Can additional family members or community members participate in the 5K?

Yes — family, friends, and community members may register and participate, but must sign up separately.

Are running buddies needed for virtual 5K events?

Yes — we highly encourage running buddies, even for virtual 5K events.

Do I have to sign a waiver?

Yes. All 5K registration forms include a liability waiver.

What does the program fee include for the Fall 2026 season (Girls on the Run 3rd–5th grades)?

Registration ($180) includes 16 ninety-minute sessions, curriculum and materials (cinch-sack, water bottle, ID card, pencil), a healthy snack each session, an official GOTR T-shirt, the 5K medal and t-shirt, and a program completion certificate. Financial assistance and a 3-payment plan are available.

When does the season begin and where is the culminating 5K?

Practices begin the week of September 14, 2025, and the season-ending 5K is Saturday, November 7, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Jackson North Park.
