A scenic 3.1-mile run through downtown Chicago offering a taste of the city’s iconic landmarks. Organized alongside the Bank of America Chicago Marathon as a premier one-day race experience.

Catering & aid stations

One on-course aid station at approximately the halfway point offers water, medical support, and toilet facilities.

Pacers

Pacers will be assigned by projected pace per mile and will lead their assigned Start Corrals from the front. Pacers must maintain the designated pace and are there to help runners complete their goal time. More details in the 'Renntag für Laufende' schedule.

What is the age minimum for the Abbott Chicago 5K?

Runners must be 8 years of age or older on event day.

Is there a time requirement to complete the race?

Yes — you must maintain a 15:00 per mile pace and complete the 3.1 miles within 45 minutes from official start to finish.

Can I register for a specific start corral?

Start corrals are assigned based on your projected pace per mile. You may move back corrals as space allows if you wish to run with a different group.

Are refunds available if I can’t attend?

All entry fees are non-refundable and may not be deferred toward a future event, except for the participant cancellation option with a service fee as noted in the Terms & Conditions.

What support is available for athletes with impairments?

The Adaptive Program offers accommodations including Guide Runners or Support Runners for eligible athletes. Wheelchair athletes may use push-rim racing or manual wheelchairs; foot-powered or motorized devices are not permitted.
