About

The Arrowtown Backyard Ultra is a self‑supported night‑and‑day ultra where competitors run 6.71km laps on the hour until only one runner remains. Set in the Arrow River Valley with support crew in Arrowtown, it’s as much a mental challenge as a physical one.

Catering & aid stations

This is a self‑supported event — you must provide your own food, water, and gear. The event village (Butler Green) has cafes and a bakery nearby. Microwaves and a jug are available in the timing tent; limited power points are provided for charging devices.

Pacers

Laps must be completed within the hour; a warning sound is given at 3, 2, and 1 minute before the hour (quiet after 8pm). The course is 6.71km of mostly hard‑packed trail with two river crossings. Pacers are not permitted on course.

Is there a kids/tag race?

Yes, a FREE 1km kids trail race is held just after the start of lap 4 on race day.

Are teams allowed?

Yes, teams of up to 4 can enter and continue if a member DNFs; they support and encourage each other.
