A desert island ultramarathon on Boa Vista, Cape Verde, offering 150 km, 75 km and 42 km routes under pristine ocean-and-desert landscapes.

Catering & aid stations

Aid stations offer water and essential supplies; ultramarathon and salt marathon feature additional support. Competitors must carry food and a sleeping bag.

Pacers

Pacemakers will be present along the Ultra and Salt routes with designated target times displayed at the Ervatao checkpoint (km 83) and announced on race day; Eco Marathon does not use pacers.

FAQ

When does the 2026 Boa Vista Ultra Trail take place?

The event is scheduled for December 5–6, 2026. Race day is Saturday, December 6, with a 7:00 am start.

How many routes are there?

Three: the 150-km Boa Vista Ultramarathon, the 75-km Salt Marathon, and the 42-km Eco Marathon.

What about elevation change?

Elevation change is significant but navigable: ~1,300 m on the Ultramarathon, ~500 m on the Salt Marathon, and ~400 m on the Eco Marathon.

Can I enter the Ultramarathon and stop at the Salt Marathon finish-line?

Yes, you can. You will be entered in the Salt Marathon rankings below the last ranked athlete that officially entered the 70 km event.

What do I need to bring?

All competitors must carry a backpack with food, a sleeping bag, headlamp with spare batteries, compass, survival blanket, knife, lighter, antiseptic, whistle, signaling mirror, and at least 1.5 L of water. The organization provides the road book and route maps.

Do I need a medical certificate?

Yes. Italian athletes need a sports medical certificate (Art. 5); non-Italian athletes need a medical certificate plus a stress EKG within three months of the start date.

Is there Wi‑Fi?

Wi‑Fi is becoming more widely available; the event headquarters at Ca’ Nicola do have Wi‑Fi—check with reception regarding access fees.

How do I get to Boa Vista Island?

Flights connect via Cape Verde airlines (NEOS, TAP, TACV). NEOS offers direct flights from several Italian cities; TAP hubs through Lisbon; TACV connects the islands.
