About

A 50 mile (81 km) and 50 kilometre trail ultramarathon around the Mendip Hills, organised by volunteers from Bristol's Town & Country Harriers for the benefit of the Mendip Hills Fund. The event features well-stocked aid stations, a medal and finish-line goodies, prizes, and a hot meal at the finish.

Catering & aid stations

On-course aid stations offer sweet food (cake, biscuits, fruit, sweets, malt loaf) and savoury food (crisps, nuts, sausage rolls), water, squash, flat cola, and vegan options. A free meat or vegan hot meal is served at the finish. Vegan options available.

Pacers

One pacer per runner is allowed from the final checkpoint (CP7). No pacers are permitted before then; use race-direction guidance at checkpoints.

FAQ

What kit is mandatory for the race?

Carry two independent electronic devices (e.g. GPS watch and smartphone) with sufficient battery for the full duration (15 hours), OR paper maps of the course in a waterproof case. Also required: survival bag or emergency foil blanket, compass (if not using dual GPS devices), water bottle or bladder, emergency food, whistle, waterproof top with hood and taped seams, waterproof or windproof trousers, long-sleeved warmer top, gloves, buff or hat, fully charged mobile phone at maximum volume, and headtorch with charged batteries.

What are the cut-off times?

50M: final cut-off 23:00 (with intermediate checkpoints detailed on the route page). 50K: final cut-off 19:00. Check the route page for leg-by-leg checkpoint times.

Are there age-group prizes and recognition?

Yes: prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in open and female categories, goody bags for age-group winners, and free race-day photos.

Can I bring my dog?

No, dogs are not permitted due to livestock on the route.

Is there a free registration option for those who can't afford the race fee?

Yes, the organisers partner with Into Ultra to offer two free places on the BTU50K and two on the BTU50M for anyone struggling to afford ultra races. Contact Into Ultra directly to apply.
