About

A scenic point-to-point race beginning in downtown San Luis Obispo and finishing at the Pacific Ocean in Avila Beach, with a half marathon and a scenic 5K along the coast. The event has welcomed Olympians and world record holders and remains one of the Central Coast’s most beloved running events.

Catering & aid stations

All aid stations will have water available, and select stations will also have restrooms. On-course Verpflegung includes fresh fruit, hot coffee, and a complimentary beer for participants age 21 and over at the finish area.

Pacers

Pacers will be available for the Half Marathon, shown by Pacerflaggen at the designated Startwellen on race day. Refer to the "Renntag für Laufende" board for target times per wave and follow pacers only when wearing official Pacerflaggen—return and warm-down are not paced.

FAQ

Is there a waitlist?

Yes, there is a waitlist. If spots become available, we will begin offering them to waitlisted participants starting August 31. If you can no longer attend, please email city2thesea@gmail.com. Participants may also transfer their registration for a $5 fee.

Can I transfer my bib to someone else?

Participants may transfer their registration through RunSignUp to someone on the waitlist. Anyone wishing to transfer their entry to another participant should not use the City to the Sea social media platforms to facilitate the transfer, and must not charge more than the original entry fee paid for the event.

How can I verify my registration?

Log in to RunSignUp and check your current orders.

I registered for the half marathon. Is it possible to switch to the 5k?

Transfers are allowed with a transfer fee ($10) as along as space is available. Once the 5k race fills, we can no longer authorize transfers between events. We appreciate your understanding!

How do I register a group?

Where do I pick up my race packet?

Packet Pickup is on Saturday, October 17 from 10:00 am - 3:00pm at Running Warehouse. Race day Packet Pickup is Sunday from 5:45 am - 6:30 am. Race Packets will NOT be mailed to you.

Can someone else pick up my race packet on my behalf?

Yes, if they have a copy of your photo ID or your registration confirmation email.

If I cannot attend the race anymore, can I still get my packet?

You can still come to packet pickup and get your packet! However, if you cannot make it to packet pick up, there is no way to get your packet after race day.

Can I exchange my shirt for a different size?

Shirt Sizes Are Ordered in AdvanceTo make sure every participant receives the size they selected, we’re unable to offer shirt exchanges. All shirts are pre-ordered based on individual registrations, and swapping sizes could impact availability for others.Please note that sizing is based on two distinct fit styles. We recommend reviewing the sizing chart carefully before making your selection.

Is there a time limit to complete the half marathon?

The course is open for 3 hours for the Half Marathon & 1 hour for the 5k. If you surpass the limit, you’ll but there are some runners that need a bit more time. If you finish after the above time limit, you’ll still get a medal, but you’ll need to move to the sidewalk (the course is controlled by the CHP and police only for the three and a half hours). Runners are welcome to start early but note they will not have an official time.

Can I walk the 5k or the half marathon?

Yes, within the 4 hour and 1 hour time limits for respective events!

What is the headphone policy?

The use of headphones is discouraged. It is a safety hazard since use may compromise a participant’s ability to hear critical safety and/or directional instructions, especially instructions that may arise in an emergency situation.

Is there shuttle service from the finish to the start after the race?
