FAQ
What do I wear for a triathlon?
You do not need anything specific. Many athletes swim in a costume and then put a t-shirt and shorts over it; tri shorts or a tri suit can be used. Goggles and a swim cap are provided; wear a race number on the bike and run legs. Consider a race belt for convenience.
Can I change after my swim?
Yes — inform the poolside official when you arrive. Note the clock will keep running; changing rooms and showers are available.
What bike do I need?
Any working bike (e.g. shopping, mountain, road) that is well serviced with efficient gears and brakes. A helmet is mandatory. TT bikes are less suitable; a normal road bike is preferable. The course has a steep descent, so ensure brakes are reliable.
Can I do tumble turns?
Yes, tumble turns are permitted.
Can I get a refund if I can't compete?
Refunds of £20 (adults) or £10 (youths) are available until 23 August 2026; no refunds are offered after that date.
When should I arrive?
Arrive at least one hour before your start time to register, set up your bike and gear in transition, change, and be poolside 10 minutes before start.
How do I know what swim time to enter?
Estimate a conservative time for 100m (e.g., time four lengths at a steady pace in a pool) and multiply by five to get your expected swim time. You may adjust this on registration until about one month before the event.
Do I have to swim front crawl?
No. Breaststroke is allowed; however, for safety in a multi-person lane you will not be permitted to swim backstroke.
