Stretch Trail 5k
5 km
A scenic trail running event in the Lake District featuring routes ranging from 5k to ultra 100k, with the marathon voted Britain’s most scenic trail marathon. Set in the Hawkshead countryside with panoramic views, challenges like the Coffin Trail climb, and festival atmosphere.
Water stations and aid points are provided on course. After the race, fruit and drinks are available at the finish. The event venue (Hawkshead Recreation Ground) has food and drink available at the start/finish area.
Pacemakers will run with the Marathon and Half Marathon fields to support participants in achieving their target times. Refer to the event’s ‘Renntag für Laufende’ schedule for exact pacers’ start times and pairing details. Pacers are identified by flags and bibs on race day.
Monthly averages based on historical data (2000–present).
From 18th May 2026 the event uses a print-on-demand approach to reduce perfectly good kit going to landfill. T-shirt choice and add-on happens during registration.
Prizes are awarded only for the main Race start (9:00 am Marathon; 11:00 am Half Marathon). Specific prize details are available on the event page under Further Information.
You must be at least 18 years old to enter the Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10k Challenge. The Mini 10k is open to participants under 12 with a fun-run focus.
Yes — you can switch between the Challenge and the Race start at the same event provided you do so at least 45 minutes before the earliest start time for that event.
You can edit your entry online up to 6 days before the event. After that window or for race-day changes, contact the organiser via the event page or in person at registration (deadlines apply).
Entry includes access to your chosen distance, a race number (to be collected in person), timing, and course marshals. Post-race amenities include fruit, water, and results publication. T-shirts are an optional add-on from 18th May 2026.
No waiting lists are kept. If extra places are released, they are first offered to marshals and volunteers, then announced via Facebook and the website.
Wear suitable trail running shoes with a good grip. Inov-8 Roclite or Trailfly models are ideal; consider Mudtalon if very wet. For new trail runners, a general purpose trail shoe is recommended.
Drive very gently with wheels facing straight, slow and steady. Use second gear in diesels and minimal throttle in petrols. Avoid spinning wheels and only short-wheelbase small vans (e.g., VW Transporter) are permitted on event car parks.
