About

The Mesa Marathon is Arizona's premier race, offering a fast Boston-qualifier marathon with nearly 1,000 feet of net elevation loss, a gentle downhill half marathon, and a scenic 10K — all on paved roads through desert and valley scenery.

Catering & aid stations

Water, portable restrooms, and first aid at all aid stations. Certain aid stations also offer Crank Sports E-Gels (Electrolyte drinks) and muscle relief provided by Biofreeze, fruit, and medical personnel.

Pacers

Pacers will lead both the full marathon and half marathon using a Smart Pacing strategy that varies pace by course elevation. Marathon pacers target paces from 2:55 (6:40/mile) down to 4:20 (9:54/mile); half-marathon pacers target paces from 1:30 (6:52/mile) down to 2:20 (10:41/mile). All racers must maintain the posted pace per mile to finish under the 6.5-hour time limit; pace guide wristbands are available at the expo.

FAQ

Do I need to ride the bus to the start line or can I be dropped off?

ALL marathon & 10K runners must ride the bus to the start lines; no parking or drop-off is allowed at those start lines due to road closures. Half marathon runners may park and be dropped off near their start line — there are no buses from Riverview Park to the half marathon start.

Is the Mesa Marathon a Boston qualifier?

Yes, it is a USATF-certified Boston qualifier (certification #AZ23023JOE).

Are there course time limits?

Yes. The time limit for both the marathon and half marathon is 6.5 hours (finish by 1:03 p.m.). The 10K has a 3-hour limit.

What is the course surface composition?

The course is composed entirely of paved asphalt roads.

How do I join a team after I have already registered?

Go to the Join My Team page and fill out the form using your registration confirmation number.

What is your transfer/withdrawal/deferral policy?

You may transfer your bib to another person, defer your entry to the next year, or withdraw and receive a refund. Visit the Transfer, Withdrawal & Deferral page for details.

If I can't make it to the expo, how can I get my packet?

If you cannot attend the expo, you may have someone else pick up your bag with your ID and a written authorization. If you will arrive after expo hours, you can have your packet mailed for an additional fee (selected during registration). Note: starting in 2026 there is no race-day packet pick-up.
