About

An open-water swimming competition held in the Torne River, crossing the Arctic Circle and the Sweden–Finland border. The event features 2000m and 3000m distances with a mass start format, set in the Nordic summer night for the 3000m.

Catering & aid stations

Hot soup and coffee/snacks available at the 3000m start area in Finland; warm drinks and food service at the finish area (Polvallen football field).

Pacers

Pacemakers are announced for the 3000m distance; target times per start wave are published on the event schedule. Pacers help runners maintain even pacing along the marked route.

What are the age limits and safety requirements?

Minimum age is 12 years; wetsuits are strongly recommended and mandatory if water temperature is below 16°C. Use of a safety buoy is mandatory for the 3000m distance. The event follows Swedish Swimming Federation rules.

How do I register and what are the fees?

Registration starts on 11 January 2026 at 20:00 Swedish time via the official RaceResult site. The event does not publish entry fees on the public schedule; check the registration page for amounts.

What are the course options and formats?

Two distances are offered: 2000m (mass start during daytime) and 3000m (night swim, up to 55 minutes). Both cross the Sweden-Finland border and the Arctic Circle.

What happens if the weather is bad or the river is unsafe?

The start may be delayed or cancelled if weather conditions are poor. The organizers reserve the right to modify rules for safety.

Where is the event and what are the start/finish locations?

The event takes place in the Torne River. The 2000m starts and finishes on the Swedish shore. The 3000m starts on the Finnish shore and finishes on the Swedish shore (near Niska/Polvallen).
