FAQ

What is a Pubrun?

A Pubrun is a joyful blend of outdoor adventure and pub culture. It’s the act of using Britain’s incredible network of footpaths and rights of way to explore the countryside—on foot—starting and ending at a pub. Despite the name, “running” is optional. Walking, jogging, hiking, or rambling all count. Park in the pub car park, follow one of our community-provided routes, and return to enjoy good company, a drink, and that warm pub glow at the end of your journey.

Do I have to run?

Absolutely not. The “run” in Pubrun is more of a nod to movement than a requirement. Many people walk, hike, or stroll—at whatever pace suits them. It’s about enjoying the route, the landscape, and the company, not racing to the finish.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, furry friends are very welcome on most Pubruns! Just be mindful of livestock, local wildlife, and other pub-goers. Keep your dog under control, follow the countryside code, and check if the pub you’re visiting is dog-friendly (many are!).

What should I wear or bring?

Dress for the British weather—layers are your friend. Comfortable, weather-appropriate footwear is a must (think trail shoes or walking boots). If you’re heading out in low light or winter months, bring a head torch. Other useful bits: a waterproof layer, a phone with a map app or downloaded route, and maybe a change of clothes for post-run pub comfort.

Are Pubruns free?

Yes! All routes on Pubrun.co.uk are free to access, shared by our community for everyone to enjoy. Just remember to support the pubs that host us—grab a drink, a bite, or both. It’s a small way to say thanks for the parking and the pint.

How do I find a route near me?

You can browse routes on our website by region, pub name, or activity level. Each route comes with details like distance, terrain, estimated time, and whether it’s better for walkers, runners, or everyone. We’re growing all the time—check back often or help grow the community by sharing your own favourite route!

Can I submit a route?

Yes please! Pubrun thrives on community contributions. If you’ve got a great route that starts and ends at a pub, we’d love to see it. Head to the “Submit a Route” page for all the details—it’s quick, simple, and helps others discover brilliant new adventures.

Do I need to book with the pub?

Use your own judgement. If you’re going in a big group, or planning to eat, it’s courteous (and smart) to let the pub know. That said, many Pubruns are spontaneous—just be aware of opening hours. We’ve been known to do a 10km in deep winter, only to find the pub closed by the time we got back. Don’t be us.
