About

The Hampshire Hoppit marathon, half marathon, and 10k are scenic trail races, run mainly off-road. Each course is a clearly marked, single-lap route with friendly marshals along the way. The marathon and half marathon follow parts of two historic footpaths — the Wayfarers Walk and the Harrow Way — with the 10k also enjoying beautiful countryside.

Catering & aid stations

Regular drink stations offering water, squash, and light refreshments along each route; post-race finisher with beer (or soft drink alternative) and custom engraved glass.

Pacers

Pacemaker/Pacer guidance: Marathon and Half Marathon target times published by start wave — please refer to the event website for pace band guidance and wave-specific start times; 10k does not use pacers.

FAQ

The Hampshire Hoppit

Sunday 14th June 2026 – Marathon 09:00am / Half Marathon 10:30am / 10K 11:00am

🏃‍♂️ When and where does the Hampshire Hoppit take place?

The Hampshire Hoppit races take place near Kingsclere, Hampshire, starting and finishing at the top of White Hill. 📅 The 2026 event is on Sunday 14 June 2026. Full location details and parking information will be sent to all entrants before race day.

🕘 What time do the races start?

Start times are: Marathon: 9:00 AM Half Marathon: 10:30 AM 10k: 11:00 AM

⏱ Are there cut-off times?

Yes — the Marathon distance has a 7-hour cut-off. This is primarily to ensure we are not keeping our volunteers and marshals out on the course for an excessive length of time, particularly towards the latter stages of the route. The Hampshire Hoppit reserves the right to withdraw runners who exceed the 7-hour limit. Anyone finishing beyond this time will be deemed non-competitive. There is no formal cut-off time for the Half Marathon or 10K. However, these are not walking events. While short sections may be walked, participants are expected to run some of the course. We regularly receive enquiries about walking the Half or 10K — this is discouraged, and entries should be made with the expectation of running.

🅿️ Is there parking at the event?

Yes! We have ample free parking available close to the Race HQ at White Hill. Marshals will guide you in on arrival. Please car-share where possible to reduce traffic.

🎁 What do I receive as part of my entry?

Every finisher receives: 🏅 A special commemorative medal 🍺 A Hoppit finisher’s engraved glass (pint, half, or third, based on race distance) 🥤 A free drink (beer or soft drink) at the finish 🧭 Access to well-marked, fully marshalled trails with regular aid stations

🍹 I’m not a beer drinker — is there an alternative at the finish?

Absolutely! A choice of soft drinks will be available at the finish for non-beer drinkers. You’ll still receive the commemorative glass either way.

👟 Is the race suitable for first-time trail runners?

Absolutely! The Half Marathon and 10k courses are ideal for newcomers to trail running, offering a friendly atmosphere and supportive marshals. While the terrain includes some hills, many first-timers find these distances manageable and rewarding. Minimum age requirements on race day: 10k: 16 years Half Marathon: 17 years Marathon: 18 years

🚩 Will the route be signposted and marshalled?

Yes — the course is clearly signposted with arrows and flags, and we have a fantastic team of marshals stationed at key points to guide and encourage you.

🐕 Can I run with my dog?

Sadly no, dogs are not permitted on the course due to insurance and UK Athletics regulations. Our first race (in 2016) allowed dogs, but since then it seems that England Athletics have tightened up on their rules.

🔁 Can I defer my entry?

Yes, deferrals are accepted up to 40 days before race day (i.e., by 5 May 2026).After this date, deferrals cannot be accommodated due to fixed event costs. To request a deferral, please email hampshireHoppit@outlook.com. Note: Deferrals are subject to the event taking place the following year. Re-entry is required once registration reopens in November of that year.

👥 Can I transfer my entry to another runner?

Yes — you may transfer your entry to another runner free of charge right up to race day, free of charge. To initiate a transfer, email hampshireHoppit@outlook.com with the following details: Full name Email address Postal address Date of birth Age on race day Mobile phone number Emergency contact name & number This ensures we can issue an accurate bib and maintain emergency contact details.

🎧 Can I run with headphones?

In accordance with UK Athletics regulations, traditional headphones are not permitted during the race. Bone conducting headphones (e.g. Shokz) that do not obstruct the ear canal are allowed, enabling you to hear marshal instructions, especially are road crossings. Stay safe and sound!
