FAQ

What is the boat option and is there an extra cost?

During registration you choose either 'Bring your own boat' or 'Race provided boat.' If you choose the race-provided option, the fleet (canoes/kayaks) is used at no extra listed charge; boat drop-off is Friday evening and volunteers handle transport. If you bring your own, there is no boat fee but you coordinate timing and transport yourself.

Do I need USARA membership?

Yes — USARA membership is required. If you are not a member, you can purchase a single-day membership for $8 during registration.

What gear is mandatory?

Each team member must carry: a map case, compass, working cell phone (kept off), waterproof jacket, bug hat, 50+ oz water capacity, food for 12–18 hours, and a first-aid kit. Teams must also have one paddler bag (with paddles and life jackets, max 20 lbs) and may optionally have one gear bin.

Are there age categories or youth options?

Yes — youth teams (2–4 people, all members 18 & under, 25 & under) are available in the 8-hour race only. Family teams (2–6 people, including one child 0–16) are available in the 8-hour race only.
