About

A challenging trail race on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Sema:th (Sumas) First Nation, offering 30 km, 20 km, and 10 km routes that climb Sumas Mountain with technical single-track trails, sweeping Fraser Valley views, and creek crossings. The event concludes with homemade soup and pie at the finish to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving.

Catering & aid stations

Fully catered finish-line food and on-course aid stations including water, electrolyte drinks (Tailwind), fruit, chips, baked goods, and race fuel. Specific menu items are provided at the aid stations (e.g., pickled vegetables, chips, cookies, assorted candy, hot drinks: coffee/hot chocolate, hot foods: ramen, oatmeal). The event is cup-less — runners must carry their own cup or bottle.

Pacers

Pacers are used for the 30 km and 20 km distances. Target pacer times are set per start wave listed on the race day schedule (Renntag): 30 km with an aid station at the Eastern Lookout (~11 km) and another at Emma Peel (~22 km); 20 km with an aid station at Eastern Lookout (~11 km). Refer to the published start times for each wave.

FAQ

What are the registration fees for each distance?

Early Bird (until March 31): 30 km CAD $585, 20 km CAD $425, 10 km CAD $275. After March 1: 30 km CAD $620, 20 km CAD $455, 10 km CAD $310. All fees are in CAD on Ultra Signup and include a race shirt (size guaranteed if registered before May 1).

What are the qualifying requirements?

Mandatory minimum experience: 100 km within the past two years (or 100 mile/160 km self-supported). 10 km requires a minimum age of 10; 20 km and 30 km require 18+. Under-18s need parental/guardian consent and a waiver. A pacer is recommended for first-time racers.

What aid stations are available?

Main Aid Station (Eastern Lookout) at 11 km for 30/20 km races, stocked with water, electrolyte drinks, fruit, chips, baked goods, and race fuel. Second Aid Station (Emma Peel) for 30 km at 22 km. 10 km route has an aid station at 7 km. Finish-line catering includes soup and pie.

What is the race schedule on event day?

Check-in opens 7:45 am; 30 km briefing at 8:45 am, race start 9:00 am; 20 km briefing at 9:15 am, race start 9:30 am; 10 km briefing at 9:45 am, race start 10:00 am. Cut-off times: 30 km 7 hours (Eastern Lookout) and 2 hours at Emma Peel; 20 km 6 hours; 10 km 4 hours.

Is there a volunteer requirement or deferral policy?

Trail work/volunteer hours can satisfy requirements and enable deferral: full fee credit for volunteering (min 5 hours); otherwise, full credit for injury if you volunteer, 50% credit if not. Deferrals must be requested before midnight Wednesday prior to race day.
