View official resultsThe Malad Valley Marathon is held the second Saturday of September every year. The next race is on Saturday, September 11, 2027. Every distance shares a single 8:00 AM Mountain Time mass start at Malad City Park, 20 S 100 W. Line up by distance: the Full Marathon up front, then the Half Marathon, then the 10K, then the 5K, with the 1 Mile fun-run runners and families at the back.
Yes. The course has a 7-hour cutoff. All runners need to be across the finish line by 3:00 PM Mountain Time. After that, aid stations close and timing wraps up. If you think you will need more time, contact the race director before race day and we will work something out.
Malad City sits in southeast Idaho, about 13 miles north of the Utah border on Interstate 15. It is roughly 45 minutes north of Logan, Utah, 50 minutes south of Pocatello, and 90 minutes north of Salt Lake City International Airport.
Five distances: a Full Marathon (26.2 miles), Half Marathon (13.1 miles), 10K, 5K, and a 1 Mile community fun run. The 5K, 10K, Half, and Full are chip timed. The 1 Mile is an untimed community lap that requires registration; a shirt is included when ordered by the shirt deadline and a hat remains available afterward, but the 1 Mile does not include a finisher medal.
The Half Marathon and Full Marathon are loop courses with approximately equal total elevation gain and loss, so their net elevation change is roughly zero. There is one climb out of town on the Half and Full, then a long descent back to the finish. The Half and Full are about half hard-packed dirt and half asphalt; the 5K and 10K are entirely on paved roads. Course elevation is roughly 4,500 feet, so plan a little extra time if you are coming from sea level.
A race shirt is included for participants who register and pay by August 21, 2027 (three weeks before race day), unless the $10 no-swag discount is selected. After the shirt cutoff, participants may still select an included race hat. Finishers in the 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, and Full Marathon receive a finisher medal; the 1 Mile does not include a medal. Every entry also includes chip timing on the 5K through Full, 5 total aid stations (4 on the course and 1 at the finish line), on-course first aid, finish-line food, and free race photos posted to the Gallery within 48 hours of race day.
Awards are presented to the first-, second-, and third-place overall finishers in each chip-timed distance (5K, 10K, Half Marathon, Full Marathon). There are no age-group, gender, masters, or under-18 divisions. Awards are posted live on race day at the operator console.
Yes, race-day registration is available at packet pickup the morning of the race, but it costs more than registering online in advance. We recommend registering online to lock in the lowest tier price.
Parking and packet pickup are at Malad City Park, 20 S 100 W, within walking distance of the start and finish line. Packet pickup is race morning only, 6:00 AM to 7:45 AM. Please arrive by 7:15 AM so you are checked in at least 30 minutes before the 8:00 AM start. There is no bag check, so bags stay in your vehicle.
Malad has a small selection of motels, plus several Airbnb rentals in town and on nearby ranches. Logan, Utah (approximately 45 minutes south) and Pocatello, Idaho (approximately 50 minutes north) both offer more lodging if Malad fills up.
Entries are non-refundable. Bib transfers must be approved and processed through the race director. Unauthorized bib swapping or unofficial transfers are prohibited. Contact the race director through the contact form to request an authorized transfer.
