FAQ

What are the characteristics of the course?

The route of the Sparkasse Half Marathon must be completed twice for the PUMA Salzburg Marathon. According to the survey report, it is „flat“ and takes runners past the most famous sights of Mozart’s city. It features unique sections such as Hellbrunner Allee and the grounds of Hellbrunn Palace, as well as the finish line at Residenzplatz. The route of the Salzburg Women’s Run, which starts and finishes in the Volksgarten, is also flat and runs along the banks of the Salzach. The course for the spark7 Junior Marathon and the Inclusion Run by Coca-Cola is set within the green and shady Volksgarten, a local recreational area close to the city centre.

Why is there an age limit for all competitions?

With the age restrictions of the Salzburg Marathon and the Sparkasse half marathon, the Salzburg Marathon is based on the recommendations of the World Athletics Association (World Athletics)! At least in terms of their physical condition, children can achieve amazing things. Their small, light bodies are predestined for endurance sports, their organism can adapt to regular training just as well as that of an adult. But children need the freedom to determine the intensity. Because even if their bodies can achieve great endurance, monotonous sports such as long-distance running and triathlon are hardly suitable for children in the long run. The movement drive of this age group is characterized by short periods of attention and spontaneous intermittent activities. If performance is not conveyed in a playful and varied way, there is a risk that young people interested in sports will quickly lose interest or that joints, tendons and cartilage will be overburdened. The training that adults complete is not suitable for children and young people. Speed and coordination can best be trained at a young age, and this can best be implemented in varied, playful and appealing endurance training. With the junior marathon and other competitions, the running festival in the city of Mozart offers a number of options that meet the needs of young runners.

Do I have to re-register from the marathon to the half marathon?

If you are registered for the PUMA Salzburg Marathon but would prefer to run the Sparkasse Half Marathon, you do not need to re-register. This has to do with the course characteristics. Simply cross the finish line after one lap (and don't turn onto the second lap) and collect your finisher medal. You will automatically be included in the half marathon classification.

How can I cancel or change my registration?

Are you unable to take part in the 2027 Mozart City Running Festival for health reasons? If you selected the relevant option when registering, please contact our registration partner Datasport (annullierungsschutz@datasport.com) and provide a medical certificate. Please note: Cancellation protection is only available for individual registrations, not for collective or group registrations. You can find all information about Datasport’s cancellation protection here. Alternatively, the Mozart City Running Festival offers a special re-registration service. You can transfer or sell your starting place yourself by finding another runner to take your place. You can arrange the transfer yourself using the relevant button on your registration confirmation. You’ll find it under „Change details“ in the „Participant swap“ section. Changes of registration are free of charge until 31 December 2026. From 1 January 2027, a processing fee of €20 will be charged. This is significantly cheaper than the standard registration fee for new entries. Changes to registration must be submitted by 3 May 2027 at the latest. Please note: ALL Any additional services booked – such as medal engraving, the purchase of Bib Bits or the functional T-shirt – will be transferred to the replacement runner. T-shirt sizes can still be changed, subject to availability. The starting block for the marathon and half-marathon must also be adjusted if necessary. However, cancellation cover is personal to the individual and lapses in the event of a change of registration. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact the secretariat of the PUMA Salzburg Marathon.

Do I need a sports doctor's certificate to take part?

No, in Austria you are not required to present a sports medical certificate to take part in running events. We trust that you will only take part if you are properly prepared and in good health. We recommend that all participants undergo a sports medical examination, especially if they are unsure.
