FAQ

Can I register on the day?

No, all registrations must have been made in advance via SiEntries.

Is there Car Parking available?

Yes, nearby but do not park at the Scout Hut or surrounding housing estates. Use the Stagecoach Park & Ride Facility (100 metres north down Macclesfield Rd from HQ).

I don’t have fluorescent material to make patches — what can I do?

This rule was made before high-visibility vests were available; a high-vis vest is acceptable, or attach something to the back of your pack.

Can we use a GPS instead of maps?

We recommend making copies of the route maps, especially sections you’re unsure of. A GPS or phone app is useful but depends on battery; if you split up, ensure each party has maps and stays with others who know the route.

Are 1:50000 maps acceptable?

For most of the route they lack detail. A 1:25000 map is the minimum recommended, particularly for navigation难点 sections.

How much food do I need to bring?

Refreshments are available at each checkpoint with water, tea, coffee, juice, and snacks. Carry emergency rations (e.g., energy bars). A full English breakfast is provided on completion.

Are cut-off times strict?

Yes, for participant and volunteer safety. Sweepers are at the back of the event; if you’re in danger of missing a cut-off, you’ll be asked to sign a declaration and can continue but will no longer be part of the event.

What happens if I can’t complete the event?

Only retire at an official checkpoint. Hand your tally card and wristband to a hike official and request to retire, stating whether you need transport back. Transport returns to 3rd Hazel Grove Scout HQ, with possible mid-journey collection points. Minibuses are 16-seaters, so immediate return isn’t always possible; expect waits and bring food and water.

What are the timings of the event?

Saturday: 9:30–11:30 Scout hut open for registration, GPS/tracker, and bag drop; 11:30–11:45 collect tally cards at Devonshire Park; 11:50 pre-event briefing; 12:00 event start. Saturday 20:00–21:00 first runner expected back. Sunday 10:00 awards ceremony; by 12:00 all walkers to have returned — event ends.
