Über die Veranstaltung
The James River Scramble is a trail challenge on Richmond’s riverfront featuring a 10k-ish, mostly off-pavement course with roots, gravel, and rough terrain. It is not a walk and requires a hydration system—no pacers, no walkers.
Verpflegung & Versorgung
Two water stops on course (miles 1.7 and 4.2); water will be available for purchase. Participants must bring their own hydration system; cup-less support. Food trucks and Hardywood Craft Beer available.
Pacer
The James River Scramble is not pacers — this is a trail takedown challenge for runners. No pacing groups or pacer runners will be on course.

What events are offered at Dominion Energy Riverrock in 2026?
The 2026 event will have trail running, mountain biking, paddling races, fishing tournament, and a photo and video contest. Various Pop-Up Events will occur May 15-17 throughout Richmond. Check Facebook and Instagram for details as we approach event weekend.
Are the Adventure Zones free?
Yes! It is free to try all of the activities in the Adventure Zones. It’s great for kids too!
What items are NOT allowed at the Festival venue?
Large backpacks, bags, coolers, etc. Outside food and beverage (*Food and drinks will be available for sale on-site) Alcohol (*Alcohol will be for sale on site) Bottles/glass containers (*sealed water bottles and empty re-usable bottles are permitted) Contraband (drugs and weapons) Last pointers Skateboards, inline skates Flying objects (drones, kites, frisbees, footballs, etc.)
Can I bring my dog?
Yes, because they’ll be jealous if they miss out on the festival! Dominion Energy Riverrock is arguably the most dog-friendly event in RVA!

Your gift will help maintain, improve and enhance the James River Park System trails and riverfront and Dominion Energy Riverrock provides the opportunity to celebrate the Park System and Riverfront and all of the outdoor recreation opportunities RVA has to offer. We are a rain or shine event. If inclement weather occurs we will notify all participants of any schedule changes or alternate plans ASAP. We will do this via email and through our social media!

What is the cancellation/refund policy for events?
Entry fees are non-refundable, even in the case of a race postponement, cancellation, updated race format, and/or if you are unable to participate; race numbers and entries cannot be transferred to another person. No exceptions. This means once we have received your entry, you will not receive a refund if you cannot participate, and you may not give or sell your number or timing tag to anyone else.
