The Saale-Horizontale Hike is a scenic walking event on Germany’s most beautiful hiking trail (2023), offering 25 km, 42.2 km, and 50 km routes along the Saale River and Saaletal with multiple aid stations and scenic views.

What are the start times for each distance?
25 km Short Hike: 09:00–09:30 on 2026-10-10; 42 km Marathon Hike: 06:00–06:30 on 2026-10-10; 50 km Half 100 Hike: 06:00–06:30 on 2026-10-10.
Where can I register and what does it cost?
Register online at https://my.raceresult.com/377616/registration. Fees: 25 KM - Short Hike €39.00. Registration opens 2026-01-10 and closes when full (max 500 starters) or 2026-09-30.
What aid stations are available on the course?
Aid stations (Verpflegungspunkte) are located at VP1 (km 10, 10:30–14:00 at Feuerwehrverein Closewitz), VP2 (km 21.2 / 27.1, 12:00–17:00 at Ellas Lädchen Neuengönna), and VP3 (km 38.2 / 45.5, 12:00–17:00 at Ellas Lädchen Neuengönna). Water and small snacks are provided.
What is the route finish location?
All distances finish at the Carl-Alexander-Brücke in Dorndorf (Km 25.9; Km 43.0; Km 49.9). From Dorndorf, Regionalbahn runs hourly (+31 min) toward Jena.
What should I bring?
Sturdy hiking shoes/weatherproof clothing, a refillable bottle, a container for food, a mobile phone with 112 saved, the RaceMap app installed and active, and a power bank. Headlamp required for 42 km & 50 km (starts in darkness).
Can I transfer my entry or cancel?
Yes — you can transfer your start spot free of charge at any time via the confirmation link. Free cancellation until 31.05.2026; after that, up to 20.09.2026 a €10 fee applies; no refund after 20.09.2026 (fee is donated to the organizing club).
