The St. Petersburg Distance Classic is a family-owned and operated race, originally under the “Florida Road Races” name, which organizes running events in the Tampa Bay area. Founded in 1979 by Chris and Rya Lauber, their mission was to offer the most “runner-friendly” races while promoting a healthy, active lifestyle, showcasing our beautiful beach communities, and generating a positive economic impact.
On-course aid stations provide Gatorade, water, and snacks. Hot homemade pasta, fresh fruits, bagels, pastries, ice-cold beer, CURE hydration, sodas, and water served at the finish line; vegetarian option available.

Pacers are assigned to approximate goal times (e.g., Marathon pacers for 3:40–6:00, Half Marathon pacers 10 minutes slower than typical race pace). Your race registration and bib are non-transferable. Here’s why:• Every participant needs to sign our waiver during registration. Failure to sign puts you (the entrant), the “new” participant, and us, the race directors, at risk for denial of insurance claims if an accident should occur • This is a safety liability, as the emergency contact (on the back of the bib) will be incorrect since it will be your ER contact, not the other participant’s ER contact • Results could affect Age Group awards, as the new participant may be in a different category in age group and/or gender If you are unable to attend our event, we can defer your entry, or you can run it virtually. Please contact us by Thursday, February 5, at info@stpetersburgdistanceclassic.com.
Athletes who register online receive immediate confirmation from RunSignUp.com.

For non-profit groups, charities, or schools looking for fundraising opportunities, you can adopt an aid station or work on race weekend at registration and packet pickup. This is a great way for running clubs, youth athletic teams, school groups, and other charities to participate in our community events while raising funds for their organizations. We offer $250 donations to groups of six or more. If students need service hours, our races offer a fun and rewarding experience. We’ll sign your student’s school form after the event. If your group would like to participate, please register NOW at this link! The group registration link is in the 3rd row, 1st button.• It’s easy – only the Group Leader needs to register as the contact person; we don’t need the names of all the people in your group.• Register early, as group assignments tend to fill up quickly!• Our volunteer coordinator will be in touch with your group assignment.
The St. Petersburg Distance Classic is a family-owned and operated business. Most of the revenue generated covers expenses, and hopefully, some profit, so we may continue to operate. Earning our living in this sport allows us to give back to our community in a variety of ways: 1) Unlike some other singular-cause events where all the proceeds go to one non-profit, we donate cash to a number of local, micro non-profits such as running clubs, youth athletic teams, etc. that support our races with their volunteers. 2) We offer direct support to athletes in financial need through our Entry Fee Assistance program. This was extremely helpful after Hurricane Milton destroyed many homes and businesses in our area. 3) We often provide comp entries as raffle items for auctions at churches, schools, fundraisers, etc., and we donate modest amounts of cash when our athletes raise funds for their pet projects. 4) Through our races, we provide exposure to other fundraising events via Facebook posts, emails, and our goody bags. 5) Our biggest area of charitable endeavor is to provide our race management services, equipment, and time, pro bono or partial pro-bono, to non-profits that stage races. In prior years, we did this for the Partners For Life Police Appreciation Run. More recently, we helped the Celma Mastry Ovarian Cancer Foundation increase participation by 50% for its One Step Closer to the Cure 5K / 10K / 1 Miler. We helped a fellow race director stage her Sunrise Run for three years. We have also offered our time or equipment when applicable, such as volunteering at Gasparilla and the St. Pete Road Runners 5K Beach Series. 6) The absolute most satisfying charitable endeavor was to create and stage the “Tampa Bay for Boston Memorial Run.” About three weeks after the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013, we hosted 800 athletes in St. Petersburg for a candlelight vigil and memorial run, raising $15,000 for the bombing victims through The One Fund Boston. As you can see, we LOVE being a part of the Tampa Bay running community and thoroughly enjoy being in a position where we can help in many ways. Finally, for each individual athlete who participates with us, we offer the opportunity to achieve goals they once thought impossible.
This event was designed to provide equal opportunity for enjoyment by all participants. If you would like to request a reasonable accommodation for accessibility assistance pursuant to disability laws, please contact us here at Info@StPetersburgDistanceClassic.com. If you are unable to connect with us regarding reasonable accommodations You can contact the City of St Petersburg Community Affairs Division at (727) 893-7345 or (727) 892-5259 TDD/TTY. Please note that City staff will not have registration information.
