The Ridge to Rails 50k, Half & 10k in Old Fort, NC offers trail runners a unique set of races using a combo of classic and new trails — from bombing down Lower Heartbreak and Kitsuma to climbing new singletrack in Old Fort.

Verpflegung & Versorgung

Aid stations provide water, Gatorade, assorted soft drinks, bananas, potato chips, pretzels, animal cookies, M&Ms, gummi bears, Goldfish, trail mix, and PB&J.

Pacer

Pacemaker/Pacer guidance is available on the race-day schedule: 50k start 7:00 AM, half start 8:30 AM, 10k start 9:15 AM. Check the 'Renntag für Laufende' target times per start wave; pacers may be present with pacers flags per wave.

Age groups: under 20, 21-39, 40-54, and 55+. Top 3 M/F in each race receive locally crafted awards and gift certificates; age group winners receive gift certs to Mountain Running Company.

What are the course details and elevation changes?

50k: ~5700 ft gain and ~5700 ft loss on a barbell loop of Mill Creek Valley with trails like Bernard Mtn, Lower Heartbreak, Kitsuma. Half: ~1300 ft gain, point-to-point net downhill on Old Fort Gateway. 10k: ~850 ft gain, beginner-friendly Old Fort Gateway loop.

What are the aid station and gear policies?

Aid stations: 50k has 4 stations (miles 7.3, 15.3, 21.4 water-only, 23.9, 28.2); half has 2 (miles 6.2, 11.3 water-only); 10k has 2 (miles 2, 3.3). Mandatory gear for 50k: rain shell, 20oz water-carrying device, emergency blanket.
